Hitcel Hernandez

Hitcel Hernandez, PPSC

Meet Hitcel Hernandez, a college student at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) of Hispanic origin. Hitcel is a first-generation student currently majoring in business administration while also studying for a certificate in accounting. She will graduate from PPSC in Spring 2024 and transfer to a 4-year college where she will continue her education in Business Administration with a focus in accounting. Hitcel strives off of helping others and pushing herself to the best version she can be of herself as she actively seeks leadership opportunities that develop new skills and qualities.

During her college life, she has participated in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) , an honor society for 2-year universities across the world. Through PTK, she has taken the role of President where her leadership skills began to blossom through the process of hosting a Hispanic Heritage Festival on her school campus. Through her perseverance, Hitcel has received a lot of support through the college administration to continue advocating for student leaders and assisting them in their newfound leadership roles under her mentorship.

Through her strong advocacy for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Hitcel used her experience from Phi Theta Kappa to assist a student re-establish the Black Student Union (BSU) club at PPSC. Hitcel understood the hardships students feel when starting college with little familiarity, so she became the Vice President of the BSU and tackled multiple events for Black History month.

Hitcel holds pride in her work as she reminisces on her past decisions of avoiding leadership roles and learning from those past mistakes. She now understands the value of having faith in yourself and passing on the knowledge and experience to others who may need a push in the right direction to leadership just like she needed in 2021.
