Zoey Stewart
Zoey Stewart is currently finishing up her sophomore year at Trinidad State while being a member of the softball team. Zoey is a part of Phi Theta Kappa and is a resident’s assistant for the dormitories. Zoey will graduate with an associate in arts and an associate in science degree. Upon graduation, Zoey plans to transfer to a four-year university to continue her athletic and academic career. Zoey’s plan is to study education with a minor in coaching, to eventually become a teacher and a coach. Growing up, Zoey dreamt about playing college softball, and is thankful that she had the opportunity to thanks to Coach Swazo. Zoey grew up in Roswell, NM and when she entered her eighth-grade year her family made a move to Dexter, NM. Dexter is a small town about twenty-five minutes south of Roswell. Dexter is where Zoey would complete her high school years. During this time Zoey played volleyball, basketball, track and field, and softball. Zoey was also a part of student council and National Honor Society. Zoey graduated High School with a 4.4 gpa, along with 12 additional college credits. Amongst this time, she won the state championship for softball in her eighth-grade year as well as her junior year. Growing up with the amazing support system that Zoey has, contributed to the success that she shared with them. Dulce Trujillo
Dulce Trujillo is a 22-year-old mother and nursing student. She is currently enrolled in the ADN program offered by TSJC at the Valley Campus and is excelling in her program. Dulce started her nursing career when she earned her Nurse Aid Certification at 17 years old. She worked in this scope of practice for two years before earning her Certificate of Medical Assistant. Shortly after having her son she entered the TSJC nursing program and is pursuing her Associate’s Degree of Nursing. She is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, achieving honor roll grades while holding a position on the Colorado Student Nurses Association board as the Projects Director South. On the CSNA board, she serves as an organizer for their conventions raising funds to attend national conventions to present proposed changes to nursing legislation on a national level. Dulce also volunteers to teach Sunday school classes at her church twice a month, in addition to her volunteer work cooking food for funerals held at her church and holiday dinners at the La Puente shelter. Dulce is a passionate outdoorswoman, aiming to summit all 58 fourteeners in Colorado. Dulce enjoys playing ukulele accompanied by her husband on the piano or guitar. She is involved in the community of Alamosa, attending reading programs at the library and health fairs with her son whenever scheduling allows. Dulce is honored to receive this nomination through TSJC, and ready to excel in the nursing field, benefitting the lives of many patients one day.
