Equity-Centered Advising |Zoom Link

Laura Roecker and Rebecca Hubbard, Front Range Community College

Front Range Community College Online Pathways Advising developed and implemented an equity-centered case management model, focusing on students who identify as LatinX, Black, American Indian, or 2 or more racial or ethnic identities, and one or more of the following: Pell-eligible, First Generation, Cumulative GPA 0.00-3.00.

Through this model, advisors can be intentional, proactively outreaching their advisees, encouraging engagement through advising appointments, plan building, and relationship building. Our goal is to “move the needle” and improve success metrics, including academic standing, GPA (Grade Point Average), and retention for this population of students.

Laura Roecker is the Director of Online Pathways Advising at Front Range Community College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Justice from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Arts in Leadership in Higher Education from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Opening the Gate for STEM: WeBWorks and Open Educational Resources in the Colorado Community College System |Zoom Link

Sara Satkowiak and Brittany Dudek, CCCOnline

CCCS is dedicated to furthering equity for students through the adoption, adaption, and creation of open educational resources to reduce the cost of course materials. However, students enrolled in STEM classes are often not the beneficiaries of these no-cost resources, as many traditional STEM textbooks also provide homework platforms via access codes associated with the textbook material. CCCS has facilitated the course development of several math courses using the open access homework platform WeBWorks. This session will provide details on using WeBWorks, the grant funding process for this pilot program, and how to institute OER in your own STEM courses.

Elisabeth Olson, Arapahoe Community College

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a learning disability? In this session, you will be able to participate in different group activities that parallel what it’s like to have learning differences. You will also learn about different tools and accommodations that help people with learning differences show their amazing potentials and be successful.

Elisabeth Olson: I am honored to be working as a Disability Access Services Specialist at Arapahoe Community College. I attended California State University, Fullerton, where I earned a B.A. and M.A. in American Studies and a Special Education Teaching Credential. Having been born with a mild cerebral palsy, I understand the different challenges people with disabilities face in society. I have the perspectives of having to utilize accommodations as a student attending a university and then as a working professional recommending accommodations to students. My passion and calling in life is helping others to understand that accommodations allow equal access in education and in the workplace.
