Jo Ellen Becco is the Director of High Impact Practices at Pikes Peak Community College. High Impact Practices (HIPs) are equity teaching practices that engage students and are positively associated with deeper learning and higher retention and graduation rates, especially for students historically underrepresented in college success measures. Becco is also an associate professor of English at PPCC, and, among many other accomplishments, she created PPCC’s Study Abroad program, COSI (Colorado Opportunities Scholarship Initiative) program, and Faculty Scholars program. Nationally recognized for her work in High Impact Practices, Jo Ellen Becco will be presenting for her second time at IUPUI’s National Assessment conference on High Impact Practices’ equity mandate in October 2021. She also serves on the organizing board for the national association for High Impact Practices, HIPs in the States, and has contributed to numerous national discussions about HIPs in the community college.
