This is an interactive learning experience where participants will work collaboratively to discuss real business and STEM classroom examples and develop their own class activities incorporating the CREDE standards. The Center for Research on Education, Diversity, and Excellence (CREDE) developed a set of standards for effective culturally responsive pedagogy that are based on Lev Vygotsky’s social constructivist learning theory and over 40 years of research on effective instruction for culturally and linguistically diverse students, including indigenous populations. In this session, participants will learn how to practically apply the standards to their own teaching of business and science as well as other disciplines. Use of CREDE standards in college classrooms shows great potential for increasing student engagement, thus promoting active student learning, as supported by two studies conducted at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in over 64 undergraduate classes and across 35 academic departments (Yamauchi, Taira, & Trevorrow, 2016; Engels, Bruno, Dasalla, & Böttjer-Wilson, 2019). Join us in this active, equity-centered learning and teaching experience to infuse your teaching with culturally responsive practices!
